The University of California San Diego Center for Microbiome Innovation is announcing Complete Genomics as a new Industry Partner.
A world leader in microbiome research and expertise, the UC San Diego Center for Microbiome Innovation (CMI) aims to cultivate dynamic collaborations between UC San Diego microbiologists and groundbreaking industry groups. As an Industry Partner, Complete Genomics will have the opportunity to accelerate CMI’s innovative projects through their next generation sequencing technologies and spatial genomics workflows.
Complete Genomics is a genomics sequencing solutions provider founded in 2005 and based in San Jose, California. The life sciences company’s mission is to improve lives by providing genomic sequencing solutions at an affordable price and large scale. Complete Genomics supplies customers and partners with genomic sequencing resources for research, healthcare, and industrial applications. Their product lineup includes sample extraction, library preparation, lab automation, DNBSEQ™ sequencing, and data analysis.
“UC San Diego’s microbiome expertise and capabilities were just what we were looking for in a partner to bring our flexible multi-omics solutions to the San Diego life science community and beyond. From microbiome research to leading spatial transcriptomics solutions, we are delighted to announce this partnership and look forward to continuing our support of the Center for Microbiome Innovation. We plan to support both ongoing and new projects with innovative technologies such as our DNBSEQ-G800 that leads the short read market in long single end reads, the DNBSEQ-T7 which drives budget efficiency for NGS projects, as well as our subcellular STOmics portfolio,” said Christian Nelson, Vice President at Complete Genomics.
As a cornerstone of their partnership, CMI and Complete Genomics are planning a series of monthly workshops held on or in close proximity to the UC San Diego campus for faculty and student audiences. The first event was a Lunch & Learn seminar held on December 19, 2024 and included a presentation by Complete Genomics’ Drew Kebbel, Technical Sales Specialist, and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies’ Elsa Molina, Single-Cell & Spatial Omics Core Director. Future events are planned for February 2025 and throughout the year.
“Our newest partner, Complete Genomics, brings significant capabilities in technology and genomic sequencing as a global life science company,” said CMI Executive Director Andrew Bartko, Ph.D. “Partnering with their team will support the innovative research and development we aim to accomplish at CMI,” said Bartko, who is a Professor of Practice in the Shu Chien-Gene Lay Department of Bioengineering at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering.
The Center for Microbiome Innovation (CMI), housed within the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, strives to forge collaborative partnerships with a range of industry groups to fuel future discovery, advancement, and innovation in the world of microbiome research.
