Joint CMI and IBM Research Summit: Pandemic Response and Human Health
Over the last two years, the microbiome research community has been instrumental in investigating SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. Our work has been integral to the detection, surveillance, and mitigation of the virus, and the data we’ve produced has helped inform public policy as we navigate the process of exiting the pandemic. Meanwhile, existing research proceeded in parallel to the pandemic response, as the two tracks generated innovations that often complemented each other.
Artificial Intelligence for Healthy Living, the partnership between the Center for Microbiome Innovation (CMI) at UC San Diego and IBM Research’s AI Horizons Network, has been at the forefront of this two-pronged approach to microbiome research. Leveraging IBM Research’s world-class expertise in artificial intelligence and CMI’s cutting-edge microbiome research capabilities, the collaboration has produced impactful results that continually advance our understanding of the links between the human microbiome and health.
We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, May 12th, for a joint summit detailing both our recent findings and ongoing research efforts. CMI Faculty Director, Professor Rob Knight, has prepared a keynote speech on the microbiome and human health. Following that, researchers from CMI and IBM will give presentations on topics including pre-cancer microbial analyses, the links between built environment microbiomes and human health, real-world applications helping guide pandemic response in San Diego schools, and key advancements in data analysis algorithms. The summit will be capped off by a roundtable panel with a question-and-answer session.
Registration for the event is not required, but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at CMIInfo@eng.ucsd.edu.
