Dr. Bartko’s goal is to inspire, nurture, and sustain vibrant collaborations between UC San Diego’s microbiome experts and industry partners in the life science, nutrition, energy, information technology, clinical, and healthcare industries. Specifically, his aim is to focus on creating and commercializing innovative technologies to accelerate microbiome discoveries and healthcare breakthroughs across academic and industry collaborations.

Rob Knight

Pediatrics, Computer Science and Engineering

Rob Knight is the founding Director of the Center for Microbiome Innovation and Professor of Pediatrics and Computer Science & Engineering at UC San Diego. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Academy of Microbiology. He was recently honored with the 2019 NIH Director’s Pioneer Award for his microbiome research. He received the 2017 Massry Prize, often considered a predictor of the Nobel.
